The NSW Government has committed $835 million to upgrade the John Hunter Hospital campus, and deliver the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct – an innovative and integrated precinct with industry-leading facilities.

Forming part of the precinct is the $2.3 million Hunter Health Innovation Lab – a partnership between Hunter New England Local Health District and the University of Newcastle. The innovation activities of the innovation lab will reflect the research and clinical strengths of the Hunter New England Local Health District, and the distinctive rural and regional operating environment. Initial areas of focus for the lab include digital health, sustainability in healthcare, medical technology, and operations and logistics.
